Today's lotus flower study continues using the purple palette from yesterday. I used Winsor Newton French Ultramarine Blue paint instead of Cobalt Blue for this flower. Otherwise, the paint colors are the same as yesterday. I mixed the colors on the paper more than yesterday.
I'm also doing some research into the lotus flowers as I paint them. Most Buddhist mandala paintings of lotus flowers have eight petaled lotus flowers to signify harmony. Each petal corresponds to one aspect of the Noble Eightfold Path of the Good Law in Buddhism.
In the Hindu religion, the eight petaled lotus flowers symbolize purity and spiritual perfection. As the lotus flower unfolds, the ability of the soul to awaken and embrace and love all in Hinduism. I made a conscious effort to paint an eight petaled lotus flower today in honor of the Buddhist and Hindu religious significance of the eight petals.
